This past weekend was packed with a lot! I decided to take a 1 credit course on hairstyling which took place over 2 days here at ASU! Along with going out with my friends, homework, and the Super Bowl… my weekend was busy.
The fashion hairstyling workshop I took started on Friday. For the first look we straightened our partners hair for a volumized sleek look. I never knew there was so much that went into straightening hair, but I learned a lot of tips about how to do it correctly. The biggest tip I learned was to straighten the hair above a 90 degree angle (from where the hair naturally comes off the scalp) to add volume. This technique prevents the hair from looking like it is stuck to your head. After straightening the hair we did “the perfect ponytail.” I’ve seen this look on runways multiple times and I had already done on myself a few times, but it was fun doing on another person.
On Saturday we started the day off by curling the hair using a curling iron and allowing the curls to cool in a pin curl. We once again used the over 90 degree technique for more body. I loved the way my curls came out on my partner! The curls are so bouncy and full when using this technique.
After curling the hair, we went into doing an updo by doing a twist in the back. We go to get creative with this look so I decided to do a Dutch braid across the front. My partner had shorter hair on one side of her head because she had shaved it awhile ago and all I had to work with was the hair that had grown out since. Though, I think I made it work really well!
For the last look, we went into braiding! We did a braided crown look and since my partner had such short hair I decided to do to Dutch braids and cross them in the back. Just for fun I decided to add some flowers which I think I kinda sucked at haha.
Overall, I would recommend this course to any ASU student. The teachers were awesome and it was a really fun time. Plus you get a credit from it! They are actually trying to get this class turned into a semester long course that you could accumulate 3 credits through. I really hope this happens because I would love to take this class for an entire semester!
That’s all I have for this Monday’s post! I hope you all enjoyed it and please email me if you have any questions on how to take this workshop this semester! They have one more opportunity to take it.
Also, don’t forget to subscribe and share!!
xx.
